World Cup: Pass the Ketchup!; Nani Mystery

PORTUGAL:
Ronny has struggled to score for his team, which led to a difficult qualification for the Portuguese NT.  A prolific goal-scorer at United, the former Reds winger received some advice from the voice of experience:
"Goals, as a football legend once told me, are like ketchup. Sometimes, as much as you try, they don't come out and when they come, many come at the same time."
Portugal face the Ivory Coast in tomorrow's (Tuesday) Group G opener.
But former Manchester United star Ronaldo, 25, insists he has not set any personal targets.
He declared: "I'll give my best but I don't want to set the bar at being the top scorer or the best player at the tournament."

NANI MYSTERY:
Left behind from the SA trip after a collarbone injury, the Man United winger was replaced by manager Carlos Queiroz.  Everyone, including me, felt it must be serious enough for Nani to bow out of the biggest tournament.  But new revelations from Nani have put a question mark on the reason for him being left behind.  In an interview last week with Gestifute (his agents in Portugal), Nani said:
"I have left the Portugal squad in South Africa because I am no longer necessary there," Nani told Gestifute.
"I do not have words to explain my feelings at the moment I learned of the injury.
"For me, it was an unexpected situation and a big nightmare that I will never forget.
"After the injury, my team-mates asked me to stay, but I am a footballer and if I could not help the squad then the best solution is to return to Portugal to start my physical recuperation.
"My feelings are those of pain, rage, sadness and bitterness, but this is football."
But then yesterday he made comments that he would be recuperated in a week and ready to play in SA.  The Portuguese Federation quickly sent out a press release refuting claims that Nani was sent home because of disciplinary problems with the coaching staff.
?????  Who asked THAT question?  That seems odd to offer that kind of response when everyone thought he was injured to begin with.  The mystery continues...
