Charlotte Eagles: Game Three

The Eagles travelled to South Carolina to meet the Charleston Battery for the second time this season.  Looking to avenge their earlier loss to the Battery, the Eagles found themselves down a goal very early on when Tom Heinemann was brought down in the area.  Stephen Armstrong slotted home from the spot.  Just eight minutes later, Lamar Neagle beat Eagle keeper Steward Ceus after a cross by Armstrong.
But the Eagles still had a lot of fight, and striker Josh Rife was unlucky not to convert in the 25th minute when his pinpoint header beat the Battery keeper but was cleared away on the line by Alioune Gueye.
The second half started with a very important change.  Midfielder Chris Lemons, who has been sidelined for two games with a hamstring injury, replaced Cheyne Roberts.  His inclusion sparked a midfield that had been struggling to keep possession in the first half.  His diligence paid off in the 58th minute when Darren Toby sent a rebound cross from a freekick goalward.  Lemons beat keeper Tim Melia from six yards out.  From then on the Eagles kept advancing on the Battery goal but were unlucky to put any balls in the net.  The game ended 2-1.

My Man of the Match is CRL7.  The game was lackluster in the midfield until he came on at the half.  The pace quickened with his entrance and never let off.  His goal in the 58th sparked the Eagles who were attacking until the end...just unlucky not to find the bag again.

Okay...I won't lie...he's always my Man of the Match! :)
Having missed due to injury, his fitness will only improve and then I expect more greatness from Z.
