The Charlotte Eagles held on to beat the Pittsburgh Riverhounds 2-1. Debola Ogunseye (F) and Brady Bryant (D) both had goals to improve the Eagles record to 3-2. Pittsburgh, meanwhile, fell to 0-1-3 with the loss. Both scorers for the Eagles also notched goals in our last game. Bryant was named Man of the Match after scoring the winning header and playing solid defense throughout the whole game.
Ogunseye scored his 3rd goal of the season for the Eagles in the 10th minute. “Debo” received a lofted pass from Rife and struck a beauty from 20 yards out to put the Eagles on the board. Diego Martins (M) and Chris Lemons (M) also had good opportunities. Martins’ free kick sailed high and Lemons’ volley drifted wide. In the final minutes of the first half, both teams had open shots-Pittsburgh nearly had a bicycle, and Ogunseye flashed his dribbling skills, but the score remained 1-0 in favor of the Eagles at halftime.
The Riverhounds threatened in the 57th with a header by Chad Severs (F) that hit the crossbar. The Eagles, however, collected themselves and Brady Bryant (D) scored off a header in the 61st. Right after the Eagles scored, Pittsburgh countered fiercely and fired a shot on goal, but Erik Lefebvre (GK) stopped it right on the goal line. Pittsburgh finally found a hole in our offense in the 71st. Severs connected on a volley in the 6-yard box after receiving a cross from Lee Kowdia-Tobey (F). Pittsburgh continued to have great passes all night and opportunities the whole game, but just weren’t lucky enough to beat Lefebvre after the first goal.
The Eagles have a tough road schedule ahead, taking on the Richmond Kickers next Friday, followed by Maryland on Saturday.
