French football legend Zinedine Zidane has expressed his disappointment at the performance of Real Madrid in their UEFA Champions League last 16 first-leg defeat to Lyon.
Zidane scored the winner the last time los Merengues lifted European football's most coveted trophy when they defeated Bayer Leverkusen in the 2002 final at Hampden Park.
"This is a big disappointment, not really because of the score but because Real Madrid played a bad game against a Lyon team who played well despite their poor form in Ligue 1," he is quoted as saying by Goal.com France before adding that the display was Madrid's worst performance in quite some time.
"It's a long time since Real had a bad game like this. This is the beauty of football, you never know the result. There is a second leg but it won't be easy." [end story]
In today's marca.com Zizou said that he thought Madrid would win their 10th CL this year. He accompanied the team to Lyon (this is the first time he's done that). Maybe he's rethought that statement after today's match.
