"Judge not, that ye be not judged." Matthew 7:1.
I'll admit it. I'm judgmental. If you read this blog then it would be obvious that I have an opinion on everything and often blast those whom I feel deserve it. I try to back up my opinions with facts, but the fact remains...I'm judgmental.
So I have decided to call this blog entry, "How Disappointing." I'm not judging, just tsk tsking...if there's a difference.
John Terry.
I debated about weighing in on this subject because I do not like Chelsea, and never will like Chelsea. I do, however, like the England National Team, of which John Terry is the captain.
I'm writing this blog because I'm a sports purist. Always have been, always will be. When sports "heroes" take it upon themselves to degrade their own sport, I take particular offense to that.
There have been many examples, unfortunately, in recent years. Pete Rose. Roger Clemens. Mark McGwire (that one kills me...I'm a Cardinals fan). Michael Vick.
And of course I couldn't tsk tsk without mentioning Tiger Woods. It seems he is addicted to sex, and one would be hard-pressed to find a woman in the State of Florida who hasn't slept with him. Sick.
What do all of these men have in common? They were beloved sports heroes. Cheered on by team faithfuls, and idolized by many young fans.
As I said above, I'm a sports purist. What does that mean? I grew up in a baseball family. My father, uncles, brother, cousins, played baseball. I played fast-pitch softball. My father taught me that no matter what I did on the field, if I didn't do it with integrity then I had no business being there in the first place. If you know the person on the other team were safe, then you don't say otherwise. Cheating does not elevate you in any way, it only shows your lack of moral character.
So in a roundabout way I'm back to John Terry. Moral character.
John is embroiled in nasty business right now. It seems he had an affair with a former teammate's estranged girlfriend (and mother of the teammate's child). John has been married for three years and has twins with his wife, Toni. The teammate, up until Friday, was anonymous. John had fought to keep the identity of himself out of the papers until a judge ruled that everyone in the footy world already knew about the affair and allowed the news organization (loose terminology here...the News of the World) to print their story.
Well, it seems that his teammate, Wayne Bridge, who used to play for Chelsea and still plays with John on the England National Team, didn't know that John was the culprit. Wayne and his girlfriend, Vanessa Perroncel, broke up last summer. He moved to Manchester to play for City, and Vanessa stayed with their child in London. So John took it upon himself to keep Vanessa company. Allegedly she also became pregnant and John paid for an abortion. Mr. Terry thought all of this would go unnoticed.
But John should know that in Britain, footballers are followed by the paparazzi like they're a rash on their backsides. The News of the World (a subsidiary of The Sun) took photos of John leaving Vanessa's house...put two and two together...and voila! So John sought a "super-injunction" citing the paper for violating his right to have a private life. Mrs. Terry didn't know about the affair until it broke in the newspapers. So...John is in a heap of trouble. The public, who pay exhorbitant amounts to watch John play, want his hide for being a lout. His wife has taken the kids to Dubai to get away from the press (she won't divorce him...he's paid 150,000 GBP per week), and of course Miss Perroncel is looking to cash in on the "I slept with John Terry and ruined his marriage" angle with a 275,000 GBP book deal. I'm not sure what the book would say other than, Chapter 1...slept with John. Chapter 2...slept with John...Chapter 3...Had an abortion....Chapter 4...I'm a nobody so somebody please pay me insane amounts of money to tell my story...ad nauseam.
I waited to weigh in on this to let the dust settle and the slime sink to the bottom. Mrs. Terry is still hiding out (well not really...she's shopping and getting a tan) in Dubai, Wayne Bridge has returned to play...only to lose to Hull City, Ms. PERROncel has now said she won't sell her story (no doubt she was paid hush money from a Terry bank account), and John Terry has been stripped of his England NT captaincy (I applaud that) in favor of Rio Ferdinand , and Terry's Blues now need a win tomorrow to stay ahead of United in the Prem League table. Wheeewwwwww!
This isn't Terry's first controversy. He is a serial shagger (one time with a 17-yr-old in the back of his Bentley in a car park). He was caught selling tours of Chelsea's training facility last fall. His father was caught selling cocaine in December. His mother and aunt were caught shoplifting 8,000 GBP worth of goods from Marks and Spencer last year. It seems he hasn't had good role models to form his character. As far as I'm concerned the only worthwhile thing he's done is to slip on that "banawner" in the CL final in Moscow!
Let's relive that wonderful moment courtesy of youtube:

You know that I love photos and always include some in my blog, but...
I won't post pictures of the offensive people above because that would mean my blog contained photos of Chelscum, Man ***ty, and useless, tiresome, do-nothing WAG whores...I can't be bothered.
The sad part of this is that the Terrys have two beautiful twins, Summer and Georgie, and Bridge and Whatsherface have a four-year-old son. I can only imagine the talks they will have with the young'uns when they are old enough to read. "Yes, mummy and da were bad...but you should be a good lad."
No judgments here...only tsk tsking.
Not the first time a coach has taken captainship or a spot off the national team due to an affair... If you recall with the 98 team, John Harkes was dropped from the National team due to an alleged affair with his teammate, Eric Wynalda's wife... How do men like this feel like they have the right to take whatever they want? It gives us all a bad name, and makes it hard for us to find something worth living for and loving... Susana, you know where I am in all of this. I definitely struggle with the lack of character and integrity that our society breeds daily! When did this become acceptable enough for it to seem alright to do? Thanks for the posts, i love reading them. Miss you and the kids and faculty of Explorer! :)
ReplyDeleteI watch Eric Wynalda on Fox Fone In and he mentioned last week "that we know these types of things have affected us...in 98." Now the coach comes out and says he didn't drop Harkes because of a "defensive strategy" as he said in 98 but because of the potential lockerroom nightmare. Why wasn't he honest about it back then? John Harkes is one of the faces of US soccer on ESPN. Maybe ESPN would have thought better had they known he was a lout like John Terry, who put his own desires above the team's. Harkes still contends that he was innocent...right.
ReplyDeleteMy disbelief is that all of them feel that it will go unnoticed...in TODAY'S media-driven society? It proves that the size of your paycheck and sporting prowess is not directly related to the size of your brain or moral character!
WE. MISS. YOU. TOO!!! :)
